The true definition of an artist.

A composer, writer, producer, actor, director, and comic genius. A true example of the "American Dream," an immigrant who went from Vaudeville to International Fame.

The Beginning

This is a picture of Chaplin when he was performing as a young child.

As a child he first made his professional debut in "The Eight Lacanshire Lads" and was quickly recognized by his talent.

At the age of 14 he took the chance to work in the Sherlock Holmes series and was casted as "Billy" the page boy and by 1910

when he started his career as a comedian, he went to United States as a featured player of the Fred Karno Repertoire Company.

He became an immediate hit with the American audiences and was soon offered a motion picture contract and he agreed in 1913 to

work behind cameras with Mack Sennett and the Keystone Film Company. After completing that contract, Chaplin left and went to the

Essanay Company in 1915 with a better salary, the following year Chaplin was requested even more and moved on and signed with the

Mutual Film Corporation.

An Independent Producer

Chaplin was looking forward to becoming Independent and finding freedom to produce his own movies so after his contract expired with

Mutual he decided to make himself a producer. In 1918 he joined First National Exhibitors' circuit and In 1919 he formed the United Artists

with Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and D.W Griffith.

back to Hollywood and resumed work with U.A. and produced 8 Films which some of them are consider classics

like A Woman of Paris and The Gold Rush (which was consider as one of his top films.)

The Gold Rush (1925)

said to be his finest film. It was nominated for 2 Oscars

A Woman of Paris (1923)

Won a Kinema Junpo Award for best artistic film by Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin Quotes

"Laughter is tonic, the relief, the surcease for pain"

"A day without laughter is a day wasted"

"Dictators free themselves, but they enslave the people"

"I am at peace with God. My conflict is with Man"

"I am for people. I can't help it"

"I suppose that's one of the ironies of life, doing the wrong thing at the right moment"

"Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot"

The Tramp

Chaplin's most memorable character "The little Tramp" was a recognized icon of world cinema especially during the silent film era

He was a good-hearted character who behave with manners and conduct of a gentleman despite his actual social-status. His evasive

behavior is what he used to get what he needs and escape authority figures who do not tolerate misbehavior.

The characteristics

The tramp has always been a victim of coincidence but results almost always went in his favors. He wore a derby hat, baggy pants, a tight coat,

a pair of large shoes ,and a small mustache. When he walks he is uncomfortable because of all of his clothes.

"A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure."
